All sky survey (DSS2) and new sky browser is coming

Postby admin » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:03 pm

Two big things are close to complete:

1. New sky browser with better mouse navigation interface, mouse wheel smooth zooming and more.

2. All sky Digitized Sky Survey (DSS). It is high resolution (1-1,7 arcseconds per pixel) all sky survey built out of 50,000 images 16 Megapixels each or 800 Gigapixels in total! We worked on software to process the data for the survey for about 6 months, then it took almost a month non-stop for our quad core server to run the process and at present time it's about 85% done.

Preview is available on our development server (please be patient, it's development server with slow access and some downtimes and it's quite busy processing remaining images):

There's still a lot of work can be done to improve quality of the survey - better color calibration, resolving remaining edges, artifacts removal and so on. As soon as we release current version we will start work on new improved version.

SKY-MAP Team
